“Regenerative practitioners do not think about what they are designing as an end product. They think about it as the beginning of a process” - Anon

Owned by Kerry and Robert Famularo, Dancing on Moonlight Estate covers 75ha of farmland situated 25km from central Christchurch on the North banks of the Waimakariri River. The property is laid out with pristine lawns, hedges, formal paths and gardens. Other landscape features include mass native plantings, a salmon pond, tennis courts and a challenging 9-hole golf course designed by Scotsman, Richard Pendlebury. In the environs can also be found beehives and roaming exotic game birds. The estates operations include Eurosolar stores, a successful turf business, a tourist race horse experience, conferencing and race training facilities. The farm is well known for its harness racehorse breeding and yearling program and for having famous race horses bred and retired on the property. There is a philosophy of kindness to animals across all operations.

The farm operations and estate development strive to achieve sustainable environmental practice through the use of extensive composting, recycling programmes, and minimalised waste. Estate vehicles and machinery is also being transitioned to electric options where possible.

Buildings on the property have been utilised for Solar power installations modelling commercial tilt, East West on different tilt plains, building integrated, and vertical Façades. There are also ground mount systems which include trial projects and ongoing field test monitoring in conjunction with the R&D engineers from Avancis in Germany. At over 150 kilowatts peak the solar investment has been significant.

The solar installations are closely monitored and work as a lab for Eurosolar developing and trialling new product, methods, as well as pushing design limits. Smart energy management systems, load diversion equipment and storage systems are tested, and our expertise honed. Other functions also test different revenue mechanisms, metering and business case modelling in conjunction with a boutique power retailer to optimise returns for the variety of customers system types. The estate doubles as the biggest working solar power ‘Showroom’ in New Zealand.
